The Goa Police Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) has made a landmark drug seizure, apprehending a Russian DJ who was in possession of the potent illegal narcotic GHB (Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate), worth Rs. 16.88 lakh. GHB, also known as a “date rape drug” in party circles, has been recovered for the first time in Goa. The arrest came after an extensive investigation that began with a multi-crore LSD network bust last month, prompting ANC officers to seek this new synthetic drug infiltrating party scenes.
The arrest of a Russian at her rental house in Keri-Pernem for GHB has generated major concerns about the narcotics being transported and used in Goa. The DJ was arrested as a result of the ANC’s three-week surveillance operation, which began with a tip from a recent LDS bust in Kerela.
Goa Police has stepped up its crackdown on new synthetic substances invading party scenes and vowed to continue vigilant drug enforcement throughout the state.
The three-week probe was triggered by a previous ANC operation to dismantle a countrywide LSD network, in which a Kerala man was arrested with LSD worth more than Rs. 1 crore. That case’s intelligence suggested a rise in the use of GHB in party settings. Following weeks of observation, ANC agents tracked down the Russian DJ and raided her rented premises in Pernem.
The culprit was subsequently brought before a magistrate and remanded to two days in police custody. PSI Sunil Falkar led the raid, which included HC Eustaquio Fernandes, PC Sachin Atoskar, Vishal Shitole, and LPC Deepa.
