A recent audio has gone viral, where allegedly, a state IT department official is heard asking for 1 lakh rupees bribe for contract basis job in InfoTech Corporation of Goa (ITG). Goans were shaken after revelation of such corrupt act when more than half of youth are facing serious job crises. The official was heard convincing the candidate to pay at least half of total money within an hour and the candidate was laterally pleading for concession.
This shameful act wherein, the person is heard saying ‘I am the authority there’ makes us wonder how credibility of a deserving candidate is side-lined and fair recruitments have become an eyewash for common man. Acting on this, the Youth Congress staged a protest at the IT Department – Altinho office, demanding for inquiry on the audio clip. However, after listening to them, IT Director Yashaswini informed that an investigation has been started on the same. She informed that only two posts were vacant and even after conducting interviews with all the applicants, posts are not yet filled as the committee did not recommend any of the interviewed candidates. On further questioning by Youth Congress members, Yashaswini enlightened that the alleged IT official involved in the audio is still on duty and the complaint has been filed in Vigilance Department where the future course of action will be decided.
Quoting a similar incident of past where a Goa cabinet minister was accused of similar job scam in 2021, Youth Congress expressed disappointment on the rising unemployment in the state of Goa and illegalities in system. ‘I do not the authority to suspend anyone’, IT Director explained and justified that the IT Minister has issued directions to the Vigilance department.
The members of Youth Congress demanded for immediate suspension of the alleged official in the audio clip and refused to leave the office till it is done. Yashaswini, IT Director gave them a nod for sitting in the office saying ‘I have a meeting to attend, I cannot entertain you all’, and left.
Soon after this, police forcefully escorted the Youth Congress members outside the office where they chanted slogans like ‘rozgar do – nyaay doh’ which means, give us employment – give us justice. Altogether, around ten Youth Congress members were involved in this protest.
In this case, the struggles of common man were brought to light by an audio clip gone viral on phone.
Will there be any change?
Will there be any justice?
The truth is yet to be known.
